Mac OS X 10.7 Lion – AirDrop reviews
AirDrop as described by Apple as “a remarkably simple way to copy files wirelessly from one Mac to another with no setup.” Mac OS X version 10.7 dubbed Lion is the next major release of Apple’s operating system for desktop and portable Macs alike. It borrows some Multi-Touch “magic” from the iPad to apply it to the already advanced Mac OS X that we use today. In addition to core function features like Launchpad, and Mission Control, Mac OS X Lion offers smaller enhancements as well. But, sometimes, it’s the small things that make all the difference.
One of these small additions is AirDrop, an ingeniously simple way to share stuff with those around you without having to set up complicated connections using passwords, encryption, or even pair the systems. As simple as it sounds, “With AirDrop in Mac OS X Lion, you can send files to anyone around you — wirelessly,” Apple explains on the Mac OS X Lion marketing page. “AirDrop doesn’t require setup or special settings. Just click the AirDrop icon in the Finder sidebar, and your Mac automatically discovers other people nearby who are using AirDrop,” the company elaborates.
Once the connection is established, users can even see contact photos for those who are already in their Address Book, says the Mac maker.“ To share a file, simply drag it to someone’s name. Once accepted, the file transfers directly to the person’s Downloads folder,” the process is described. Signing off is done just as easy, with the user being required only to close the Finder window used to make the transfer(s).
“When you’re done with AirDrop, close the Finder and your Mac is no longer visible to others,” the Cupertino giant explains.
